freshwater regions
The characteristics of freshwater regions are the seasonal variations of the water level.
Freshwater regions include: lakes, streams/rivers and wetlands.
A lake can last for hundreds of years before they dry up fully. Fish, trees/bushes, clams, frogs and turtles are just some on the many animals and plants that can be found in a lake.
Streams/rivers is a flowing channel that joins the sea to freshwater. In a stream/river, some of the animals you can find are fish, eels, crabs, turtles and crocodiles.
A wetland is a very shallow lake, surrounded by plants. Wetlands are also known as swamps and marshes. A wetland supports aquatic plants. Some of the organisms that can be found in a wetland are plants, frogs, snakes, turtles, and lizards.
Food that is produced in freshwater regions include fish species (trout and salmon), yabbies, clams, turtles and freshwater crocodiles. The fish species that are caught, are caught by people who are generally doing hobby fishing. Just like in saltwater regions, the fish have to be prepared before being cooked. Turtles can be produced into turtle soup. Yabbies are made into food just like crab. Freshwater crocodiles can be produced into soup and meat. The skin is used for making objects like shoes and handbags.
Food production hasn't had much of an impact of freshwater regions. The only threat is overfishing, but it wouldn't be noticed as much as in saltwater regions. This is because saltwater areas are larger.
Threats within freshwater regions are overfishing. The more fish that are taken, the longer until more fish are breed. Another threat to food production is a lake dries up enough, some of the food source may die off for a certain period of time.
